Image Optimization

 

​For best printing results, please use:

  • Small images. Having your image size being as close to printed size as possible is a good rule of thumb. The ideal size is 24 to 100 pixels for width/height. Larger images will slow down printing.
  • Black and white image (not color or grayscale). Note that if using Photoshop, true black and white is called "bitmap".
  • Encode and Embed images rather than linking (see below)

Encoding and Embedding

You can add logos and images to your label via HTML using a base 64 encoded image.

To encoded and embed an image:

Step A: Optimize

Images should be optimized before encoding. The goal is to reduce the file size as much as possible before encoding.

  • Use Black and white images (not color or grayscale). If using Photoshop, true black and white is called "bitmap". You change the Colorspace to grayscale and then bitmap. Try different dithering methods to get the result you like.
  • Downsize the image before exporting (aim for 100 pixels on the longest side)
  • Use png or gif unless jpg is smaller in file size. These formats will usually result in smaller files for black and white images.
  • Check your work: A great file size is 10K. A file size of 100K is within reason, but you should try to get is smaller. A file size of 500K is too big.
Step B: Encode
  1. Go to a website that can convert your image into a base 64 encoded URL (like one of the following)
    1. http://b64.io/
    2. https://www.base64-image.de/
  2. Upload your image
  3. Convert your image
  4. Copy the provided data string
  5. Check you work. Is the resulting text longer than 10,000 characters? Go back to Step A.
Step C: Embed
  1. From Check In Suite > Admin Console > Labels Sets, choose the desired Label Set
  2. Choose the desired Label
  3. Click the HTML Source View button to switch the label editor into HTML editor
  4. Add and edit the image into the HTML directly
  5. Click Save
