Skins

This section guides you through the Portal skin creation and altering process.

Why

Creating or altering your Portal skin may be necessary if your church website has a new design, if you have a special event or initiative with unique branding or if you are simply tired of the current look and feel of your Portal. Whatever the reason, make sure you are thinking through the why behind needing a new Portal. The original intention of the Portal was to allow a near seamless integration with your church website(s).

How

In order to build, alter and deploy a Portal skin, you need to be comfortable with CSS, HTML, images and possibly reverse engineering. This is not to scare you away from building a Portal skin, but rather to accurately set expectations for what is required. Based on your comfort level, you have the following options in proceeding:

  • Outsource: If you just read the paragraph above and got scared, Think Ministry, Inc. has very capable subcontractors who specialize in creating Portal skins at reasonable rates. To get started, send the URL the Portal skin would be modeled after to Support.
  • Build it yourself: If you or other members of your staff team have the necessary skills, you can build your own skin. You can use our " Kitchen Sink Portal Skin" as a starting point or sample for what you can do. Check out these troubleshooting tips if something goes wrong.
  • Alter it yourself: If you or others members of your staff team have the necessary skills, you can alter your existing skin without building a brand new one. Check out these troubleshooting tips if something goes wrong.
